Intro
There are numerous ways to approach fitness. Whether you’re looking to do this thing solo, have a gym partner, or thrive on community you can get amazing results. With that being said, it should be noted that community is one of the most powerful tools you can find when it comes to making lifestyle changes.
Fitness and changing your physical body can be tough on your own. Sure, you may want the lone-wolf mentality, but you should really consider the help of others before you go down that path. While you can totally do this without it, those hard times are so much easier when you have a support system to fall back on. Luckily, we have the internet now and you don’t have to look very far to find an awesome group of people on the same mission. There are tons of online fitness communities that have different goals and aspirations in the fitness world. All you need to do is find one that aligns with your goals and go from there.
In this post, we’re going to be breaking down a few of the benefits that you can expect with an online fitness community.
Let’s dive in!
Finding Your Tribe
Fitness at any level of experience can be isolating at times. You’re focused on getting results, while others around you aren’t and this can be discouraging. You get dragged for what you’re eating and doing with your time, and this only brings you down. Only until you’re around like-minded people do you really see things for what they are.
Finding your tribe is important because it’s going to make you feel included. You won’t find people pointing fingers at you, but more so people who are patting you on the back. Nothing is better than being able to talk about things that you’re interested in and actually getting supportive feedback. This exact reason is why so many people love group fitness. They make friends that are going through the same experiences as them and it creates a supportive environment.
Everyone should try and find their tribe, even if it isn’t fitness related. It can really be life changing.
Being Held Accountable
Part of a viable support system is accountability. Not always in the sense of bringing you down for messing you up, but more so a check in. Many of these online fitness groups will run a challenge or competition that really allows for some hardcore accountability. You have a place to post your proof of hard work and receive feedback for it. You also have a place that will pick you up to continue being accountable. Next thing you know, there are people ready to check on you to make sure you’re doing okay with whatever you may be facing.
Accountability is one of the keys to success here and it’s best done with others.
Learn from Others
Another great reason to join an online fitness community is that it opens you up to a world of knowledge and experience. Many of the people in those groups have been exactly where you’re standing. They’ve gone through almost the exact journey, and with that territory comes a host of tricks and tactics for success. Whether it’s new recipes, gym splits, exercises, or life hacks – you’ll find all of this in an online group.
These groups also foster new ideas that can help make things more fun or easy-going. This is only bound to happen when you get enough people together on one topic. If not for the support, you might learn something really useful in an online fitness community.
That Extra Push
You are a part of a group, and you can now own that. This helps you to find identity in what you’re doing. If your goal is to be a trail runner, and you’ve finally joined a trail running community, well you’re going to really FEEL like a trail runner now. That sense of identity can really act as a driving force for motivation and discipline. Not to mention you have an entire group of people who are ready to help give you that exact push.
That Extra Boost of Confidence
Confidence is one of the MOST important things that you might find with an online fitness community. Seeing others do great or go through the same struggles can really help lift your head. You may feel down on yourself but seeing someone else accomplish the same thing gives you the confidence to know that it can be done!
In addition, when you do something really cool you can post it in the group. The group is then there to give you feedback or a “good job”, and honestly this can be life changing at times. Let the group help you feel like your best self. There’s nothing wrong with support.
